The GREAT Commission
Partnering with you and your church
Mobilising for transformation
The Christian church is the greatest force for transformation on earth, but only when it is mobilised for action in line with the last instruction given by Jesus Christ to his followers before the Ascension.
Root and Branch Change is committed to supporting local churches. We believe that every follower of Jesus should be part of a local church, and that it is in this context that they are able to grow and become effective “ambassadors for Christ”, making a tangible difference in their own community.

However, the Bible is clear – Jesus commissioned his followers to reach out beyond their own borders. Matthew 28: 18-20 and Acts 1: 8, along with numerous other
We believe that what Christians call “the Great Commission” was given to the whole church – not just for a select few with special gifts. So, we work with churches in South Africa and in the UK, to mobilise people of all ages as participants in the greatest adventure on the planet – being an active part, working under the direction of the Holy Spirit, to facilitate transformation of lives and communities, through inspired words and acts of mercy that stand as signposts to God’s heart of love.

One size does not fit all
Of course, traveling across continents like David Livingstone is not for everyone; for some it is a practical impossibility. Yet there is an exciting role that all who trust in Jesus can play, at home or thousands of miles away. That is one of the reasons why we love working closely with churches. We can come alongside and show how every member of the congregation can weave their contribution into a rich, colourful tapestry. No two contributions to mission are identical because God delights in shaping each of his people in a unique and remarkable way.

Some of the most effective participants in our work in South Africa will probably never step foot in that land, but know that their part, in praying, giving advice, or providing financial support, is vital. Others will engage in helping us develop dynamic community-based discipleship resources for people of limited education or literacy. Some will join short-term outreach teams, travelling to South Africa to support local Christians in their mission. And some will accept the call to life-long, incarnational ministry in one of our front-line mission locations.
