End of a Beautiful Season

What a great season we have had at the Root and Branch Charity Plant Nursery! We have closed for the winter so we can start growing our wonderful range of drought tolerant hardy perennials for the spring and summer of 2027, but want to pay tribute to all the fabulous people who have supported our charitable work with children in South Africa by buying plants, and an incredible team of volunteers who pulled out all the stops (and the weeds) to make this our most successful summer season ever! The work goes on behind our locked gates, but the autumn does give our volunteers a little time to breath and do something different. Aside from being a whizz at nurturing plants, Robin Elgar is a talented artist and will be exhibiting some of her creations at The Elgiva Theatre, Chesham, Buckinghamshire from 4 October until the end of the month - she'd love you to pop in and view her work.

Many of Robin’s ideas are inspired by the rhythms, colours and shapes found in the countryside.  Her love of wild places, especially the Welsh mountains are found in her landscapes.

As for our plant nursery, although we are now closed to the public, we will be as busy as ever, nurturing next year's offering, undertaking maintenance and building a small exhibition unit in a specially crafted replica of a South African township shack home, where visitors will be able to immerse themselves in township life whilst gaining a better understanding of our work with children in crisis in slum conditions just a stone's throw from some of the most affluent districts on the African continent.
